Two men are in the custody of Washington DC's Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly vandalizing the Trump International Hotel and other nearby buildings.
The incident took place during the "Million Mask March" organized by members of the hacktivist collective Anonymous, which took place simultaneously with similar events in New York and around the globe.
According to the MPD, on Saturday morning officers noticed that several buildings and public sidewalks had been vandalized with spray paint by demonstrators. Aside from, the Trump Hotel, the defaced properties include the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) across the street. A nearby police car was also vandalized.
At the Trump Hotel, vandals spray painted the steps and the words "we suck" near an entrance, with scratch marks also evident on a nearby door. Across the street at the FBI headquarters, the organizational logo was crossed out with green spray paint, the word "corrupt" was written on a column, and the iconic Guy Fawkes masks used by members of Anonymous and the Occupy Movement were spray painted on the pavement.
Eric Roberts, a 27-year old Florida man, was arrested and charged with defacing government property and resisting arrest, while another man, 35-year-old Louisiana native Danny Hamilton, was arrested and charged with destruction of DC government property and resisting arrest. Police also seized spray paint and stencils during the incident.
One eyewitness told Khaleej Times that several dozen members of Anonymous attempted to surge into the lobby of the Trump Hotel before being escorted out by security.
