One of the oldest banks in the UAE has planted 50 Ghaf trees to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The Mashreq bank opened its first branch in the UAE in May, 1967, and now it has offices all across the UAE, Qatar and Egypt.
The bank's team planted the Ghaf trees, which is the national tree of the UAE, at one their branches in the Dubai Outsource Zone on Tuesday.
Basker Rangachari, Senior Vice President, Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, said,"Ghaf trees represent strength and resilience. They only need one and a half liter of water to sustain and can survive in the harshest of climates. It's a strong and powerful tree. You can't uproot or down root this tree, you can't remove. It will keep growing.
It is is the year of giving and we thought 'what can we do to give back?' and planting Ghaf tree was perfect. "
"Mashreq bank is very similar to a Ghaf tree. We have been present for so long and no matter what state the financial markets have been, we have always stuck by our customers and our clients."
The planting of the Ghaf trees is being collaborated with a UAE organisation, called Goumbook, that promotes sustainability and green living.
Rangachari said that to celebrate their 50th anniversary, they are carrying out a whole range of celebrations, including celebrating with their clients, customers, employees and the community.
He said the team will be planting another 50 Ghaf trees in a desert this week, as well as seedlings at a nursery.
"We are constantly ranked an Employer of the Choice in the IAE and have just won the Gallup Great Workplace Award for the 4th year in a row... for more information there are only 37 companies in the world who have won this award in 2017 and we are one of them. With 50 years of success behind us, we look forward to the 50 next," said the CEO of Mashreq Bank, Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair.
