We've all heard of actors who put on weight and then lose it in a jiffy - all for a movie role. The latest celebrity to enter this bandwagon is Bollywood star Aamir Khan whose video charting his amazing transformation for the action biopic Dangal is the talk of the town. And no, as alleged by some, steroids had no role to play in his transformation as the actor told select media who had gathered at Taj Dubai, Business Bay, on Tuesday evening to promote the Nitesh Tiwari directed sports biopic.

Flanked by debutants Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra who play his daughters Gita and Babita in the movie based on the real life story of Indian amateur wrestler and Olympics coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, Aamir spoke on issues ranging from his love of Dubai to how he hopes Dangal will address the issue of patriarchy within the Indian society.

But as expected his 'fat-to-fit' transformation was at the core of the media interaction with the actor talking in detail about how he put on 27 kilos to play the older Mahavir and then went on to lose nearly all of it in the span of 5 months to play a thinner and more muscular younger version of himself in the movie.

"Putting on weight is easy - just eat and drink what you like," he told us while admitting that losing weight was a challenge.
"I had put on 27 kilos in a short period (yes, it is unhealthy) since I didn't have enough time on hand. So suddenly my body got a shock, suddenly my organs were working for 27 kilos more overnight. Usually you put on 27 kilos over 20 years or something.
"And then I had to drop it within 5 months."

He stressed that he doesn't believe in new fad diets like high protein or ketogenic - instead relying on a healthy and balanced diet to lose it all - along with workouts.
While he confessed that it was an unhealthy way to put on weight, he also dismissed reports that he had taken the aid of steroids to do so. "Do the math - you can lose one pound a week at a comfortable pace, and you can lose two pounds if you do it faster. it is physically possible to put on and lose this much of weight on your own."

For those looking for tips on how they can incorporate Aamir's method to lose weight he has a simple message: "Don't try and look at the end goal - cause it is so far away that you get disheartened. Instead you just look at what you have to do today. Take one step at a time and then you look up and say, oh, I've reached my destination. Now it is close by."
"That's what I did."
Dangal is slated to release in the UAE on December 22.
