The gold dust is yet to settle on Al Wahda's President's Cup title triumph but the Abu Dhabi club are already looking ahead.
The Clarets are set to replace their President's Cup title-winning Mexican coach Javier Aguirre with Romanian Laurentiu Reghecampf. Although the club didn't officially confirm the news, Romanian media reported that Reghecampf, currently with Romanian side Steaua Bucharest on his second stint, will take over at the Al Nahyan Stadium.
It is being reported that the 41-year-old, who helped Steaua Bucharest qualify for the Uefa Champions League in 2014 during his first spell, will be handed a two-year deal.
"FC Steaua Bucuresti thanks Laurentiu Reghecampf, who cancelled on Friday, the deal he had with our club. Reghecampf and his staff have chosen a new challenge in Middle East football," Steaua Bucharest said on its official website.
"Our club thanks everyone for their efforts in the last year and a half. FC Steaua Bucuresti wishes them much success in the future project to Reghecampf and his staff Anton Petrea, Cristi Termure and Florin Tene," the club added.
It means Aguirre, who took over at Al Wahda in 2015, wasn't handed a contract extension despite guiding them to the President's Cup title. The 3-0 victory over Al Nasr at the Zayed Sports City on Friday night, was his final game in charge. And he signed off by helping them qualify for the AFC Champions League next season.
Aguirre also guided the club to the Arabian Gulf Cup title in his first season at the helm.
Reghecampf, who began his managerial career with Gloria Bistrita, has previous Middle Eastern experience, having guided Saudi Arabian heavyweights Al Hilal to a runners-up finish in the AFC Champions League in 2014. He also helped them to a runners-up finish in the Saudi Crown Prince Cup in the 2014-15 season.
