ADVETI – a first for Abu Dhabi The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) recently engaged the services of TAFE NSW through DET International to support the establishment of Abu Dhabi’s first vocational and technical education institute (ADVETI). The Institute is fully funded by the Abu Dhabi government through the Ministry of Presidential Affairs. A team of administration and curriculum experts helped with the first intake of 400 students in early September 2007. DET International is providing the majority of the teaching staff for first semester, and will support the transition of all teaching and management functions to local staff over a five year period. ADEC on track to revitalise school curriculum by 2008 Since July 2006, DET International has delivered a number of specific innovative school curriculum packages for the Abu Dhabi Education Council. For the first stage, curriculum in four learning areas for Kindergarten to Grade 5 was developed, and the English Language Arts curriculum and support materials were reviewed. As enhancements, DET International also provided additional documents in the form of Curriculum Standards and Information for Parents. Following the success of stage one, DET International won a competitive tender with the Abu Dhabi Education Council to develop curriculum standards and supporting resources for Grades 6 to 9. This contract has been extended to include Grades 10 to 12. DET International’s strength is its diversity, proven experience and commitment to excellence which exceeds client expectations. It is able to draw upon the expertise and extensive human resource and technology network of the NSW Department of Education and Training’s Curriculum K-12 Directorate and the Centre for Learning Innovation. A comprehensive 13 subject curriculum in print and online formats is being developed, as well as provision for professional development workshops and information technology advice to ADEC. The entire project will be completed by April 2008. |
