Alert: Dh500 fine for going above speed limit

Drivers could be punished for going just 1mph over the limit.

Drivers in England could be fined £100 (Dh500 approx) for going just 1mph over the speed limit under current plans to crackdown on speeding.
Citing that the present system encourages speeding, Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said, "We need to change our messaging and ensure greater consistency of approach when dealing with those who exceed the limit, the Daily Mail reports.
Bangham wrote in a report that presently drivers think 'it is OK to speed' and this results more accidents on the roads. But now if the buffer zone is abolished, drivers could be punished for going just 1mph over the limit.
However, the stricter driving rule has met with opposition from other police leaders who reportedly fear they could risk losing public support.
Under current laws, drivers take a speed awareness course for a first time offence, while repeat offenders will be given a £100 fixed penalty notice and three points on their licence. While, those who drive substantially faster than the speed limit face higher fines and even having their licence revoked.
In 2016, there were 2.1 million speeding offences dealt with by fines or in courts in England and Wales as compared to 1.6 million in 2011.
