Dubai: Kerala's newly set up technological university will have a UAE-based non-resident Indian on its board of governors.
Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam, who is also the Chancellor of the newly renamed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, has nominated prominent Dubai-based businessman and industrialist Dr P.A. Ibrahim Haji to the four-member board of governors. Dr Ibrahim, the co-chairman of Malabar Group of Industries, is the first Gulf-based NRI to be named as governor of a university in Kerala.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has been set up for the promotion of technical education. All the colleges and academic institutions in the state offering technical education will be brought under this university, which was established by the Kerala government in 2014,
Starting from the academic year 2015-2016, all engineering colleges affiliated to different universities in Kerala are required to disaffiliate from the respective universities and affiliate them to Kerala Technological University. The courses which are already started will continue affiliated with the existing universities and only the new admissions will be affiliated to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam University.
