Chennai - Seven days of state mourning have been announced in Tamil Nadu following Jayalalithaa's death.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa died at a hospital on Monday night, a day after she suffered a cardiac arrest. She was 68.
In a statement issued, Apollo Hospitals said: "It is with indescribable grief, we announce the sad demise of our esteemed Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma at 11.30 p.m. today (Sunday)."
Seven days of state mourning have been announced in Tamil Nadu following Jayalalithaa's death.

It is learnt Jayalalithaa's body will be taken to her residence at Poes Garden first.
Police were deployed in large numbers outside Apollo Hospitals and also at Poes Garden.
Three-day holiday has been announced for schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu following her death.
 
 
 
In a series of tweets, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the beloved CM.
