It was a close shave for a bungee jumping enthusiast after her dive landed her right into a shallow riverbed as the rope's length was apparently overestimated.
The woman jumped from La Negra bridge, only to head straight into the ankle-deep river. The loud thud alarmed the bystanders, who were watching the daredevilry. Two of the spectators rushed to rescue the thrill-seeker.
"The woman was unable to move and could only open and close her eyes following the accident," Shyrleny Cuchallo Ribera, who witnessed the accident, was quoted as saying by RT. The shocking fall has put Andean Treks, the travel agency who reportedly organized it, on a sticky ground. The agency said it would cover the woman's medical expenses.
"She does not have fractures, according to the initial diagnosis, but we are awaiting further tests," pointed out the company's director Oscar Sandoval. He added: "We are checking the videos in order to know who or what released the brake of the rope."
Human error is the main cause of bungee jumping accidents, a report by Health Research Funding says. It quotes the cord being too long as the most common reason behind the fatalities.
