Sri Lanka will aim to wrap up the three-match Twenty20 International series against Australia during the inaugural international match at Kardinya Park in Geelong on Sunday.
In the first game, Sri Lanka scored a boundary off the last ball from Chamara Kapugedera to take a series lead at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) .
Australia's home advantage against Sri Lanka has been diminished with the Test team concurrently preparing in India, and the enormous amount of support for Sri Lanka from a large Melbourne expatriate population. Adding to the intrigue, the second match will be a historic affair in Geelong, which is located about 75 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, as it will host its first ever match at the Kardinia Park. It shows Cricket Australia's intention to take the game into regional areas.
Geelong will join Cairns as the only non-capital Australian city to host an international cricket match. The match, thus, holds a lot of significance for the hosts. Apart from levelling the series, the Australians have one more motivating factor going into the match. The hosts will aim to end the draught against the Asian side in the bilateral T20I series at home, as Sri Lanka have won all the four games against the hosts as well as both the series before this one.
They will look to rebound after an indifferent performance in game one. Australia posted 168, which was a slightly disappointing total after a strong platform was laid from Aaron Finch and Michael Klinger.
Sri Lanka on the otherhand will be hoping to wrap up the series and continue their astounding record in T20 cricket in Australia. After a dazzling show from Dilshan Munaweera, Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne, Sri Lanka will look for a repeat from the trio.
Squads:
Australia: Aaron Finch (captain), Tim Paine (wicket-keeper), Ben Dunk (wicket-keeper), Travis Head, Michael Klinger, Ashton Turner, James Faulkner, Moises Henriques, Pat Cummins, Billy Stanlake, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa, Jhye Richardson.
Sri Lanka: Upul Tharanga (captain), Niroshan Dickwella (wicket-keeper), Kusal Mendis (wicket-keeper), Chamara Kapugedara, Dilshan Munaweera, Asela Gunaratne, Seekkuge Prasanna, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Sachith Pathirana, Milinda Siriwardana, Vikum Sanjaya, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga.
