Mr X, how are you?
Vasu Raju (Dubai)

Your e-mails that contain the fragrance of love and affection fill my heart with more pleasure than anything else in this world.

My child, where there is love, there is no distance.

‘How are you, my child?’  This sophisticated but silly enquiry may tempt you to mask your true self. However, my eyes are brimmed with tears of joy, when you robotically reply “I am fine or good or Quiet OK”. How can we ignore those formal enquiries as it sustains the tempo of our social life?

Seeing a weeping child or waning man, mechanized man who lacks sense and sensibility may be tempted to enquire ‘How are you?’

‘Good morning’, ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ ‘excuse me’ are generally considered as words of kindness and consideration but they can, unquestionably, lubricate the stressed and strained mechanical life of modern man. We are made first a hypocrite by the parents then a coward by the society then a skeptic by the centers of learning where our mind is stuffed with knowledge devoid of wisdom. We prefer earning to learning. As we are walled off from world of nature, our friends are TV channels, machines and electronic gadgets.

Today Human values have become fictitious. Human beings are just like cogs in machinery. Machines, well kept by companies, do better work than human beings. In the field of modern medicine, robots can successfully perform surgical operations but they cannot love or understand the pain of others.

If we come out of golden glass citadels and look around, we can experience the sun of knowledge that leads to wisdom rises everywhere dispelling the dark shadows of ignorance. We flounder amid the sea of suffering unable to see the shore. Frustrated modern man mounts the cliffs of life longing with all heart to achieve something.

Contentment of heart is the charm of life. In this world the haves and have-nots are equally discontented. The discontented millionaires, the disaffected lucky ones, the disgruntled pretty ones.

Some people are like butterflies who sip nectar from flowers but they do not save it upon future consumption. They flutter from flower to flower, sipping nectar, without hurting flowers, disfiguring their beauty or blotting out their fragrance. Like butterflies, some people accept just enough for their needs. But some are like bees who toil and moil for the well-being of the drones and the queens.

The nests birds build are more beautiful than the splendid mansions human beings erect. Honeybees build their hives based on precise mathematical calculation at speeds that would astonish even expert engineers. These masterminds should become our teachers.

Every person has problems, problems galore. The thought that we are safe will infuse us with vigor and enthusiasm. Satisfaction lies not in taking, but in giving.

Every moment changes our outlook on life. Bad manners are as catching as good manners.  Our tongue need to be controlled, our words that come from our mouth should be consoling as well as pleasing to others and such jewels should emanate from our conscience. Loving words and actions can sprinkle rain drops in the dry lands of human mind. My child, you are not far away from me. You cannot distance yourself from me even if you want to.
