Jimmy Fun Facts

How it started
Choo opened his first shop in Hackney in 1986. His designs caught the attention of many and within two years, Choo's shoes were featured in an eight-page spread in Vogue magazine!

Going Big
Demand for Choo's unique heels was high but he was still a small operation, making 20 hand-made pairs shoes a week! However, Tamara Yeardye Mellon, accessories editor at Vogue, saw potential for Choo's work in a larger market and approached him about partnering to create a line of ready-to-wear footwear.

Famous Heels
Jimmy Choo's intricate handcrafted designs have been the favourites of some of the most famous women in the world. One of Choo's most famous clients was Princess Diana, whom he designed many pairs for.  In fact, he was scheduled to deliver a pair of gold pumps to her the day after she was killed. He kept those shoes in memory of his friend.

Jimmy Choo Ltd
These days if you were to buy a ready-to-wear pair that bear the name 'Jimmy Choo' you should know the shoes are not designed by Jimmy himself. He sold his share of Jimmy Choo Ltd in 2001. If you want shoes designed by him, you'll have to purchase them from Jimmy Choo Couture.
