The British Dietetic Association (BDA) has published a list of celebrity diets that you should avoid in 2017. The BDA is the professional association and trade union for dietitians in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
This is the list.
1) Clean eating
Reported celebrity advocates: Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba.
The thinking behind this 'diet' is that certain foods are clean and others are dirty. Processed foods are considered dirty. At the heart of this 'diet' is the idea that your body requires cleaning just like your house does. The point isn't that processed foods aren't the best choice. It's about reducing your intake of processed food for the right reasons.
2) Diet pills
Reported celebrity advocates: Kim Kardashian
Why bother making lifestyle changes when there's a pill you could take? This is not to discount the fact that several people have tried all the diets they could think of and failed. Diet pills, especially several of the ones sold online, are dangerous as there is no way of knowing what went into them and what unpleasant even tragic consequences they could have on the taker's health.
3) Teatoxes
Reported celebrity advocates: Nicki Minaj and Kylie Jenner
This is an old one that's been repackaged. The underlying idea is that your body is teeming with toxins and you must detox. The human liver handles all the detoxing that a person needs. Yet isn't there something attractive about flushing out toxins and seeing 'dirt' being removed from your body? Well, yes, the idea that you have accumulated filth inside your body for years is alluring when there is the prospect of removing the filth.
4) The 6:1 diet
Reported celebrity advocate: Chris Martin of Coldplay
This 'diet' involves eating as usual for six days in a week and then fasting on one day of the week. Fasting as a means to losing weight is unsustainable and potentially hazardous to the faster's health. Your body is accustomed to fairly regular meal times and portions. So the immediate response to fasting is not to burn fat. That will take a while and fasting until then could be fatal.
5) Green juices
Reported celebrity advocate: Blake Lively and Gwyneth Paltrow
The idea that juices, fruit or vegetable, are healthy is one that's deeply ingrained. They're considered healthy alternatives to sodas and flavored milk. It's useful to realize that the juices contain calories. Unless you make your juices yourself, you may not realize that it's the juice of several pieces of fruit that make that one glass of juice you have in the morning. A diet completely consisting of fruits and vegetables is a disaster in the making.  The human body needs nutrients from different foods and in different quantities.
