Cancer survivor Dr. Anushi Somaya, Chief Mentor at Divine Yoga, credits the physical, mental, and spiritual practice of yoga for turning her life around.
She shares, "Yoga has helped me tremendously, and I used the meditations of yoga, pranic healing and creative visualisation during cancer recovery, and this had almost nullified the side effects of chemotherapy and sped up recovery."
"It has been a wonderful journey, and through Divine Yoga, I have an opportunity to reach to people and help them to change their lives positively. It gives me immense satisfaction when people, who have had health issues such as migraines or depression, say they feel much better after the practice," she highlights.
Divine Yoga comprises a team of dedicated teachers who offer a personal touch, guide students according to their needs and health issues, and help them achieve fitness goals.
According to Dr Somaya, complete balance of a healthy body, a peaceful mind and a serene spirit is perfect health. One can achieve this ultimate harmony through regular practice of yoga and can become healthier, happier and calmer.
Her dream is a harmonious world where there is no disease and no pain, where everyone has vibrant health and where life is full of happiness and love.
Yoga for weight loss
Many people do not consider yoga as a weight loss solution or a proper workout, however, Dr. Somaya responds: "With yoga and few lifestyle changes one can definitely lose and maintain weight without disturbing physiological parameters. Hatha yoga helps increase metabolism and tone the body, while Ashtanga yoga helps burn calories. One of our students lost 14 kgs in 14 months and she is still maintaining her weight. We have initiatives to encourage people to achieve their fitness goals. Whoever achieves more than 1 kg reduction receives the Star of the Month recognition."
Celebrating health
For International Yoga Day, Divine Yoga recently hosted a special event, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate of Dubai and Towers Rotana, on Sheikh Zayed Road, which included additional meditation as well as a laughter yoga session.
"Since the first International Yoga Day in 2015, we have been helping the Indian Consulate with the initiative of spreading awareness about yoga, so it can reach more people," she says.
Look out for an upcoming free event called 'Life is Amazing', along with a yoga teacher training and a 'Heal Your Life' workshop, which has an early bird discount of 10 per cent.
