Over 21,500 families visited Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, the highest peak in the country, to celebrate the Eid Al Fitr holidays.
Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of the public works and services department, RAK, said the rest houses recently completed on the Jebel Jais have attracted more tourists and families.
The Saqr public park saw 2,400 visitors in just two days, he added.
"The park was opened for free on the first day of the Eid."
Meanwhile, an array of interesting activities and family competitions were run on the second day of the Eid holidays.
"Several development projects accomplished recently at the park, including public utilities and play and barbeque areas have attracted more visitors."
The Corniche Al Qawasim and Old Corniche saw more visitors at night, while the beaches of the emirate witnessed large numbers of families and young people, Al Hammadi said.
"Local visitors and those from other emirates were keen to enjoy the fine weather at these scenic attractions."
The department had deployed more inspection patrols across the emirate to curb all environment violations, mainly at the Jebel Jais, beaches and parks, he pointed out.
"The Raqib patrols are meant to protect the image of the emirate and curb all anti-environment violations. A fine of Dh500 is slapped on violators," he warned.
The inspectors have registered 226 environment violations on the two days of Eid Al Fitr holidays. On top of the violations recorded, actually, 90 per cent, was throwing wastes from the car window."
