The General Department of Traffic and Patrols of the Abu Dhabi Police has fined 800 heavy truck drivers for driving during fog, and not abiding by police instructions on banning truck movement during fog and low visibility.
The department had ordered the truck drivers to stop the vehicles during fog and move only after the roads are clearly visible, to ensure the safety of road users and to avoid possible fatal accidents caused by heavy trucks during fog. The police have launched intensive campaigns on Abu Dhabi - Al Ghuwaifat road on both directions to catch the violators and spread awareness among the drivers. The campaign was launched in coordination with the police in the Western Region, said an official with the Abu Dhabi Police.
The police have warned heavy truck drivers to abide by police instruction on safe driving during fog and to stop their vehicles if the visibility is low.
The official confirmed that the police will intensify patrols on all roads to avoid accidents in the changing weather condition. He also advised truck drivers to avoid speeding, to fasten seatbelt, avoid overload and using mobile phones while driving. He also advised the drivers not to park their vehicles on the road shoulder.
