A 17-year-old Syrian boy saved a family with his promptness and presence of mind after their villa caught fire in Al Rawda 2 area in Ajman. The Ajman Civil Defense has honoured him for his exceptional act.
Mohammed Al Ahammadi told Khaleej Times that last week, he saw flames coming out from the yard of a villa. He knocked at the door but no one responded. Right then, the boy saw two kids trying to escape the fire by jumping over the fence of the villa. He helped them to quickly get down off the wall and lost no time in calling the Civil Defense and police.
He explained the situation to the civil defense and asked them to reach the accident site immediately. The fire fighters swung into action and controlled the blaze, while preventing it from spreading to the rest of the villa. The fire fighters also rescued an elderly man and a little girl and rushed them with air wing to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah.
Major Marwan Youssef Al Shamsi, duty officer at Ajarf fire station, said that the civil defense has felicitated Mohammed as he acted promptly and bravely to save the family's life before the fire could reach the power transformer near the house. He called security authority in time, which helped us to carry out a speedy evacuation," he pointed out.
Al Shamsi explained that the members of the family couldn't open the doors to escape the fire as it had enveloped the entire area. The civil defense quickly doused the flames and evacuated everyone at the villa who are safe now.
He pointed out that the security culture being spread among children in schools contributed a great deal in rescuing the family trapped in the fire. Mohammed did a good job by helping the children out, promptly calling the operation room and explaining the firefighters the exact location of the accident.
The cause of the fire is still to be ascertained.
