The two-day Arab Media Forum begins today, bringing together prominent media leaders, scholars, writers and media experts from around the region to discuss a wide range of topics.
This year's event - themed "Civil Dialogue" - will focus on the role of media in promoting civil dialogue by highlighting the important elements of peaceful coexistence and tolerance, as well as condemning any display of racism, hatred and prejudice.
This edition will also unveil the "Arab image in the West" report, a survey on the American opinion of Arabs, conducted in partnership between Dubai Press Club, Arab News daily and YouGov.
Over 3,000 participants and experts are expected to participate, Minister of State for Tolerance Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi - who will deliver a keynote address - Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority Noura Al Kaabi, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Shamma Al Mazrui, who is slated to unveil a media initiative for Arab youth.
Other prominent speakers include Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Richard Buangan, Managing Director for International Media at the U.S. Department of State and Dr Alexy Karenowska, a physicist and a research fellow at Oxford's Department of Physics and a Director of Technology at the Institute for Digital Archaeology who will discuss the role of technology in preserving ancient civilisations.

The Arab Media Forum will also feature '20 minutes', interactive sessions tackling more specialised topics. Among the speakers will be writer Dr. Sultan Al Nuaimi who will be speaking about 'Constructive Vs Destructive Thought'; General Manager of Al Arabiya News Channel Turki Aldakhil who will speak in a session entitled 'The Civil Dialogue I wish for' and Saudi writer Ali El Huyerini who will discuss the 'Power of Thought'.
Mona Ghanim Al Marri, President of Dubai Press Club (DPC) and Chairperson of AMF Organising Committee, said that the Arab Media Forum, and since its inception, had shouldered the responsibility of promoting constructive dialogue to refine the Arab Media industry and respond to people's requirements. This year's edition aims to explore through AMF's sessions the best methods media can adopt to face the growing challenges in the Arab World and promote a civil dialogue based on respecting pluralism and different ideologies.
