Dubai - People quietly went about their business in the darkened mall, and some people took the opportunity to post funny tweets

The Dubai Mall was plunged into darkness for two hours on Monday night as the mall experienced a temporary blackout. Photos taken at the scene showed the eerie darkness throughout the mall, with only small flickers of light emitting from people's smartphones and flashlights of employees.
Electricity was restored at 9pm, after which the Dubai Media Office tweeted: "Power supply is restored at The Dubai Mall. We thank all The Dubai Mall shoppers for their patience, understanding and cooperation."
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) also tweeted its thanks: "Dewa thanks all the shoppers, customers, retail staff, security guards, & facilities management at #DubaiMall, for their wonderful support!"
Earlier, a video taken by a shopper at the mall - and retweeted by the Dubai Media Office - showed mall visitors quietly going about their business, with no sign of panic.

A shopper at the mall told Khaleej Times that he was shopping on the second floor when suddenly the lights went off. "This was the first time I saw something like this happen here at the mall. People switched on their mobile phone lights to guide themselves outside the shops," he said.
"The corridors were full as hordes of people slipped out of the pitch dark shops towards the jammed escalators. We all quietly walked down the escalator guided by our mobile phone lights.
Many people responded with good humour to the darkness. "Dubai Mall in power outage," Andy Rohrer, a British tourist, tweeted. "Still letting people in, so weird. On the plus side, might get discount at the ice cream shop?"
Another user asked jokingly: "Who didn't do the needful and pay the Dewa bill?"
