Charity begins at school for Abu Dhabi students

Abu Dhabi - The charity drive was arranged by the students of the Islamic department

For many, charity begins at home but students of an Abu Dhabi school think otherwise. Students of St Joseph's School collected and handed over a hamper of basic amenities to school bus drivers, bus conductors, non-teaching staff and janitors at an event.
"They are indispensable part of our lives," the students said.
The school held the charity event in line with the declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving. Principal Sister Carmen said the school has utilised the month of Ramadan to reciprocate a fraction of what the community bestows.
"We wanted to showcase our gratitude to these members of the school, whose invaluable work often goes unnoticed. These drivers, bus conductors and janitors are important parts in the school life of students, and it is imperative that they recognise this significance from an early age," Sister Carmen said.
Each individual was gifted a hamper of toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hair oil and other products, all of which were contributed by the students. The teaching staff provided international mobile cards as all beneficiaries are expats.
The charity drive was arranged by the students of the Islamic department. "Our school teaches us to give more than we take from society," a student added.
