Arabic language teacher had his jail sentence reduced from three to one year by the Court of Appeals on Wednesday on the charge of groping an 11-year-old girl during a private teaching session.
The Court of First Instance found the 43-year-old Pakistani guilty in April of molesting the schoolgirl and threatening to fail her unless she let him touch her.
The accused admitted in the investigation to having molested the girl while he sat alone with her to teach her Arabic. He was then allegedly caught in the act by her mother.
The Court of Appeals commuted his sentence and upheld the deportation order against him.
The incident was reported on February 22 at Al Rafaa police station.
The girl said during the investigation that she felt scared as the defendant touched her. She said she pushed his hand away, but he threatened to fail her.
According to prosecution records, the defendant had been giving the girl private lessons for two months. The girl also said he had previously touched her shoulder many times.
The mother said she left her daughter with the teacher around 8.30pm at the dining table. "I went to my bedroom. But I came back to check on her when I did not hear her voice for a while."
The mother said she saw the defendant touching her girl. "He was lifting her shirt. I shouted at him to stop."
The ruling remains subject to be challenged at the Court of Cassation.
