The Sharjah Misdemeanors Court has charged an Arab woman for abusing and insulting her husband through social media, mobile app WhatsApp and Viber in August following some family arguments between them.
During the court hearing the wife denied the indictment and pleaded not guilty.
The couple has refused to bury the hatchet or find an amicable solution. On the contrary, the husband is now insisting that his wife should face trial for insulting him. He said she has been hurling insults at him, threatening him, using obscene language even via text messages.
The court hearing has been adjourned until December.
As per UAE law, a person can be fined not less than (Dh250,000) but not exceeding Dh500,00 for whoever is involved in insulting, threatening, abusing online or breaching someone's privacy using automated information system or one of the information technology methods.
