Two Moroccans, who allegedly tried to steal 12 items worth Dh1,790, including shoes and clothes, from a clothing shop in a mall, were charged at the court on Thursday.
A 27-year-old accused admitted the attempted theft charge in the Court of First Instance while the other, a 25-year-old man, pleaded not guilty.
The case dates back to August 12 and was reported to Al Rashidiyah police after the duo allegedly tried to make away with the stolen items by hiding them in a guitar case. They are believed to have cut the magnets with sharp tools they had brought with them. However, their attempt was foiled after the security guard suspected and stopped them.
"They raised my suspicions so when I intercepted them and searched the guitar case they carried, I found clothes hidden inside. They had sharp tools like scissors. The other man had hidden the clothes in a bag he had brought with him," the 27-year-old Nigerian guard said.
The court will hand down a verdict on October 31.
