The Dubai Police launched a manhunt for the killer of a man, whose charred body was found on a main street in Qusais Industrial area more than a week ago.
According to police sources, they received information on October 14 that a person was on fire behind Khan Saheb warehouse in front of the Ministry of Labour office. A team of police and civil defence reached the site and put out the fire, but could not identify the person.
Initial investigation revealed that the body was that of a man. The police shifted the body to the General Department of Forensic Medicine for further investigation. Police sources said they could not identify the person as no missing report had been filed with the police.
A security guard at the warehouse said he saw the fire, and on a close check, realised it was a man. His colleague informed the police about the incident.
An employee of a nearby company said the crime scene had been cordoned off by the police for more than a week. He said the body was almost burnt and was beyond recognition.
The police team had been scanning footages from the CCTV cameras in and around the area, including shops and fuel stations.
The police suspect the killer poured petrol on the man before he was set on fire. Based on this assumption, the police are concentrating on the footages from CCTV cameras installed at petrol stations in the area.
