The fragrance of incense turned sour for an employer, when he was jailed for offering aloes wood (oudh) and luxury incense to an official of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs - Fujairah.
The Fujairah Criminal Court sentenced the defendant to three months in jail and fined him Dh1,000 on Tuesday after finding him guilty of offering a bribe to a government employee.
According to court records, the case dates to last month, when a female employee at the department informed the police that the defendant sent her a can containing expensive oudh and incense with his chauffeur. He wanted her to strike the violations made by his company off the record.
The public prosecutor summoned the chauffeur, who said the defendant had sent the items for the complainant.
