A man, who was caught at the Dubai International Airport with pieces of cake which contained marijuana, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
The 23-year-old Iranian, holder of a visit visa, was also found in possession of cannabis seeds.

In court, he pleaded earlier not guilty to the charges of bringing and possessing drugs, claiming the cakes were gifts to his friends. He denied being aware of what was inside the cakes.
The Court of First Instance convicted him and ordered him to pay Dh50,000 worth of fine. He will be deported after fulfilling the terms of the court's ruling.

The defendant's arrest was made by the customs inspectors on March 31. He was then referred to the anti-narcotics officers.
The Crime Lab's report showed the marijuana, seized from the accused by the customs inspectors, weighed 314.2 grams.

The court ordered that the seized drugs be confiscated. The conviction remains subject to appeal.
