A worker, who was earlier sentenced to seven years in prison and deportation for stabbing his roommate to death, has lost his appeal.
The Dubai Court of First Instance had found the 29-year-old Indian worker guilty of murder last November.
The Court of Appeals upheld the lower court's verdict.
According to prosecution records and based on the testimony of a witness, the worker assaulted his compatriot and then stabbed him with a knife following a row over the light. The incident was reported on April 9, 2015.
An Indian driver, 23, said he learnt from a worker about a fight in a room at the workers accommodation in Jebel Ali. "It was after 9.30 pm. I entered the room and saw the accused spitting blood."
He called the ambulance. Paramedics found the victim dead. The driver added that the victim had a stab wound in the upper right side of his chest.
"I learnt that they fought after the accused turned off the light and the victim turned it on again several times. They engaged in a physical fight before the accused stabbed the victim. The accused was not injured."
A police corporal said they arrested the defendant at the workers' accommodation in the Dubai Investment Park in Jebel Ali.
