Two maids, who have been on trial for allegedly stealing jewellery and valuables from a palace in Dubai, have been both cleared by the Court of First Instance.
The two women, both Sri Lankans, were accused of stealing some jewellery and three smart phones belonging to their employer.
The two women, aged 34 and 31, were reported to the police after their supervisor caught one of them hiding something suspiciously in her room.
The 42-year-old Egyptian said during the investigation she saw one of the accused was trying to hide the valuables she had stolen. "I learned from her that two other maids helped her in the theft. One of them had run away," she claimed.
The two defendants, however, reportedly blamed during police questioning the theft on the absconding maid.
