A jobless Emirati jobless woman allegedly unlawfully availed mobile phone services by buying SIM cards along with smarphones under her colleague's Emirates ID card. The Court of First Instance was told that the 33-year-old woman applied for two SIM cards (along with smartphones) at a branch in Al Twar, Al Qusais, using the another woman's ID and consequently cumulated bills worth Dh 12,846.
She has been charged with forgery, using others' private documents, fraud and unlawful use of the telecommunication provider services.
The complainant, a 29-year-old housewife, said the accused used to work with her at the Dubai International Airport. "In May 2011, I gave her my Emirates ID card after she claimed to me she had good connections and could help me apply for house and financial aid," she told the prosecutor.
"In October 2011, my phone was disconnected. When I contacted my service provider, I learned about bills totaling Dh 33,438 that I had to pay on postpaid SIM cards". The woman was surprised as she had never subscribed to such services.
Later, when she was shown the two application forms and she knew it was her ex-colleague who had misused her ID card to apply for the smart phones and SIM cards. The signature on the forms was not hers. The accused had forged the signature of her colleague and her mobile number was also shown on the forms. The court will hand down a ruling on December 15.
