A worker stood trial at the Dubai Criminal Court for groping and assaulting a woman on a Dubai street. The Indian man allegedly groped the Filipina and punched her on the chest.
The 22-year-old defendant, who is a worker, denied charges of sexual and physical assault, but confessed to consuming alcohol without a licence.
According to prosecution sheet, the 26-year-old woman was returning home from a supermarket in Al Satwa area when she saw the defendant walking towards her from the bus station on January 31 this year around 10.30pm.
Suddenly, the man grabbed her forcibly and groped her. She hit him on the hand with her handbag and the man punched her on the chest in return, making her fall to the ground.
The complainant testified that the accused ran away, but she chased him and a compatriot helped her to stop the man.
The woman said that while she was chasing him, he turned and tried to punch her on the face, but she managed to avoid it. Meanwhile, she called the police who came and arrested him.
A Dubai police official testified at the court that the man was drunk and apologised for his act after his arrest.
