Dubai school helps parents to connect with their kids

Dubai - The objective of the event was to show children's education is important and to tell parents that connecting with their kid helps in their child's wellbeing

When did you last spend some quality time with your children? A school has come to the rescue of parents who do not get enough time to bond with their kids due to hectic schedules.
The Dubai-based Kindergarten Starters (KGS) school organised a creative initiative titled 'Makers Market' where the parents participated in creating something of their choice along with their children.
The packed school auditorium, with over 200 parents and students, was filled with unique creators, bakers, designers, producers and unique artists. Parents could be seen enjoying creating interesting products with their children, spending quality time and at times even following their kids' instructions.
The objective of the event was to show children's education is important, build their confidence and to tell parents that connecting with their kid and his or her school helps to shape the learning and wellbeing of their child.
The initiative saw the 'little makers' even market their products through an auction. The proceeds of the event - Dh2,500 - will be contributed to build a school for the underprivileged kids in Malawi.
An excited parent Bushra, whose son Mohammed Umar studies in KG1Z at KGS, told Khaleej Times: "I was not sure what I had to do at this event but my son pulled me towards the painting side. I was amazed to see him giving me ideas and directing me to match and use different colour schemes. I spent some excellent quality time with my son, who appeared so confident and in control of the work he was doing."
Another parent Ameen Ahmed said: "It made my son Arman so confident. I saw him go on stage, auction his painting himself, and it was unbelievable. Thanks to the KGS staff for cooperating and calling us to witness how creative our kids can be."
Everyone present encouraged the children by purchasing their products. "As educators it was a moment of realisation that parents are powerful agents in their children's learning," said Asha Alexander, the principal of KGS.
