Dubai Municipality has issued a notice following a social media campaign asking for a ban on rubber shoes.

The campaign had been doing the rounds after a boy lost his toe when his foot got stuck in an escalator in a hotel. The boy was wearing rubber shoes.

The municipality, in a post on Facebook, said the incident was an accident and there has been no news about withdrawal of products.

"A mother launched a social media campaign to warn of the risks of buying 'rubber shoes' for children, after her child had an accident that led to the amputation of his toes during the family's stay in Dubai. Crocs Inc. is a global company, and there has been no news of the withdrawal of their products from the market worldwide. The incident was an accident," the statement said.
