Jewellery shop robbers should face tough penalties: Dubai Attorney-General

Dubai - The five men are accused of breaking into the shop at night and breaking the glass facade and walking away with jewelleries worth Dh1.5 million

The Dubai Attorney-general, Eissam Issa Al Humaidan, has given his instructions that five men involved in the robbery of a jewellery shop to be referred to the Court of First Instance and recommended that the strictest punishment be inflicted on them as per the Federal Penal Code. 
The probe into the robbery was launched as soon as the case was referred. It was handled by chief prosecutor Dr Khaled Ali Al Junaibi under the supervision of Deira senior chief prosecutor Younis Al Blushi. The five men are accused of breaking into the shop at night and breaking the glass facade and walking away with necklaces, bracelets, earrings worth about Dh1.5 million.
During investigation, the accused admitted they stole the jewellery with the intention to sell it to the fifth accomplice. The latter confessed he wanted to buy the stolen pieces and already processed some to determine their quality. 
The robbery was caught on a surveillance tape and its details matched the accounts given by the defendants, according to the Criminal Evidence Department report. The five men were charged with robbery at night with the use of sharp tools and possession of stolen items.
