The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed an agreement with Western Union to enable DEWA's customers to conveniently collect their security deposit refunds from Western Union agent locations in the UAE and around the world.
According to the pact, customers can request for refund of their security deposits through DEWA's website or smart app and choose Western Union as the payout option.
As soon as the customer receives confirmation from DEWA that their deposit is ready for collection, the money will be available from Western Union agent locations in the UAE or around the world within minutes. The move is part of DEWA's continuous efforts to save customers' time and effort.
The agreement was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and Hatem Sleiman, Regional Vice President for the Middle East, Pakistan & Afghanistan at Western Union.
"At DEWA, we work in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide the best government services that better the lives of people, and the directives of His Highness to reduce the number of visitors to government centres by 80 per cent."
"This agreement with Western Union is part of our efforts to work with government and private organisations to provide various options and innovative services to our customers. Now, DEWA's customers who do not wish to transfer the security deposit to another account, can request a deposit refund through Western Union and receive the money from any of its branches or agents around the world," said Al Tayer.
"We are very pleased to collaborate with DEWA. Consumer convenience is key for Western Union, and we are constantly developing innovative ways to provide choice of channels for fast, reliable money transfer and payments. This service will enable DEWA customers to choose via DEWA's mobile app or website the security deposit refund option - local or international - as it best suits them," said Sleiman.
DEWA has launched the Transfer of Electricity and Water Service ('Move To' service), which allows all residential, commercial and industrial customers to transfer their current electricity and water accounts to their new location.
Additionally, customers can transfer their deposit and data, when moving from one property to another, within Dubai, as soon as they get their Ejari contracts from any of the 800 real estate companies accredited by Dubai Land Department. Customers can also deactivate electricity and water services, and get their final bills using DEWA's smart app or website. Customers can get their security deposits transferred directly to their local bank accounts, using their IBAN numbers, or choose to receive a cheque by express mail to their local address.
