His Highness Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has issued a resolution governing the tram system in Dubai.

The new resolution states that jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident with fatalities will invite a minimum fine of Dh15,000 and a maximum fine of Dh30,000, apart from the suspension of the driver's license for a period of one to three years.

Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident with casualties will invite a minimum fine of Dh5,000 and maximum fine of Dh15,000 apart from suspension of the driver's license for a period of between six months and one year.

Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection and causing a traffic accident without casualties will invite a minimum fine of Dh3,000 and a maximum fine of Dh6,000 and suspension of the driver's license for a period of between 30 days and six months.

Jumping the red light at the tramway intersection without causing a traffic accident will invite a minimum fine of Dh2,000 and a maximum fine of Dh5,000 and suspension of the driver's license for a period of between 30 days and three months.

Owners, contractors or operators are subject to a fine of between Dh100,000 and Dh500,000 if they do not adhere to safety and security requirements as stated in this resolution, or the policies and procedures set forth under it.

In addition to penalties and fines prescribed in this resolution on the owners, contractors or operators, RTA may suspend works until the violation is cleared and/or cancel or suspend any previous approval, permit, certificate or permission. This resolution will be published in the Official Gazette and is effective from the date of publication.
