Even as thousands of office-goers in Dubai are stuck in traffic jams following heavy downpour throughout the day in the emirate, Dubai Metro passengers are not having an easy time either.

Passengers have sent in pictures of long queues outside Metro stations as hundreds of them decided to leave their cars behind in offices to avoid traffic jams.

Despite the heavy rain, the Metro has been running smoothly throughout the day.

"I have been standing at the Noor Bank Metro station for nearly 20 minutes now. There are too many passengers. It's very crowded. I am happy I left my car at office. But I wasn't expecting it to be this crowded," said Arabella Canaria, an admin officer working near the Al Quoz area.

"I left my car in the office and decided to take the Metro. Waiting at the metro station is still better than sitting inside the car," said Moeen, a banker at ADCB metro station.

"I am happy I asked my family to leave their car at home. I just hope they didn't have to wait too long at the Metro station," said Parul Sharma, a store manager at a Dubai shopping mall.

Parts of UAE, especially Dubai, have seen heavy rainfall throughout the day today, resulting in water logging in some areas.
Statement from Rail Operations Director Mohammed Al Muthareb:
"This long queue has nothing to do with the rain. We are implementing crowd control at both the World Trade Centre and Business Bay stations. Because of the Gulf Food, a lot of people are using the Metro. We can not put everyone in the train that's why we asked them to queue at the stations. We are doing crowd control because we do want the trains to reach overcapacity."
