But what exactly does it mean?
According to Science Magazine, the 'Super Blue Blood Moon' is a celestial occurrence made up of three separate events - a blue moon, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse, all rolled into one magical package. Blue moon is the term used for the second full moon of the month.
A supermoon happens when the moon is at its closest position to Earth, making it appear larger than usual. A total lunar eclipse happens when the moon passes directly behind the Earth's shadow and completely blocks direct sunlight. This, in turn, makes the moon appear red - also known as the 'blood moon'.
