Ministry of Labour (MoL) will stop issuing work permits to establishments that do not provide proper accommodation to workers.
Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash said: "The ministry of labour is going ahead with implementing its policies, which also entitles the ministry to deny issuance of new work permits to establishments that do not provide accommodations which are not compliant with standards stipulated in the ministry's guidelines."
The UAE has been keen to provide labour accommodations that comply with the standards, specifications and conditions matching global standards, the minister added.
The guidelines approved by the cabinet comply with international criteria which specify appropriate location that would best suit the users.
As per the guidelines, the establishments are also required to provide necessary items that workers need at their housing.
The meeting was attended by Mubarak Al Dhahiri, Undersecretary of Ministry of Labour; Major-General Mohammad Ahmed Al Marri, Director of the General Department of Resident and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai; Samy Al Qamzi, Director-General of the Dubai Economic Development Department (DED); Hussain Lootah, Director-General of the Dubai Municipality; and Humaid bin Demas, Assistant Undersecretary of the MoL for Labour Affairs.
