Sharjah Ruler pardons 170 inmates

Sharjah - Sharjah Police Chief Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi hailed the initiative of the Ruler and his effort to ensure family welfare in the emirate.

The new year brings good news to 170 families in Sharjah. As many as 170 inmates will join their families to restart a new life, thanks to the humanitarian gesture of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah,
Dr Shaikh Sultan announced the pardoning on the last day of the GCC Inmates Week, which concluded on Wednesday.
Sharjah Police Chief Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi hailed the initiative of the Ruler and his effort to ensure family welfare in the emirate.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, a top official at Sharjah Reformatory and Punitive Establishments of Sharjah Police Department, said that the 170 inmates were selected based on the gravity of their crime, good conduct in jail and duration of sentence.
Inmates who were involved in financial crimes like bounced cheques or failing of paying, debts and have shown good conduct during their short-term jail period will be listed in the pardon lists.
Inmates from different countries and emirates will be included in the list who can resume family life and be integrated in the society.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Interior is making great efforts in coordination with police departments across the country to rehabilitate the inmates.
Arab national Khawala, M., wife of an inmate, who expressed her happiness with news of her husband coming back home, hailed Shaikh Sultan and the efforts of Sharjah Police in helping the inmates re-unite with their families.
She said that her husband was involved in a bounced cheque case and sentenced for six months in jail.
"As I found a job as teacher in school, I will support my husband to begin new life free of debts," she said.
