Police patrols to cycle their way to you at beaches, remote areas

Dubai - The pedalling patrols will have the traditional search and rescue responsibilities

To respond to emergency situations in coastal and other remote areas, the Dubai Police's General Department of Search and Rescue launched a first-of-its-kind cycling patrol service on Wednesday.
These patrols will cover the coastal areas along the Jumeirah Beach and the Dubai Water Canal in order to improve security services, respond to emergency cases and ensure the safety and security of community members.
During the launch, Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, stressed that the search and rescue patrols will contribute to the Dubai Police's strategic goals.
The pedalling patrols, which are equipped with modern equipment, first-aid kits and various means of communication, will have the same, traditional search and rescue responsibilities. It will have direct communication with the command and control room and the cycling patrols will be deployed in stages to cover all marine areas.
On his part, Brigadier-General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Director of the Search and Rescue dep-artment, explained that cycling patrols are characterised by their ability to manoeuvre and reach all the narrow places and perform all the tasks of traditional rescuers. Besides, they can arrive at accident scenes faster, especially in spots that require more time for rescue teams. The pedalling patrol unit rescuers are equipped with lightweight smart helmets and their bicycles with warning panels and light signals. Additionally, it will have a sophisticated audio and visual system to enable the teams to hold group conversations.
