A man in his 30s was killed after the truck he was driving veered off the road and stuck in a concrete manhole on the road in Ras Al Khaimah late on Monday.
Col Ali Saeed Al Alkeem, director of traffic and patrols department with RAK Police, said the Asian truck driver, identified only as G.S., received serious injuries all over his body and bled excessively due to the impact of the accident.
The central operations room of the RAK police, alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, as well as paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time.
"Initial enactment of the accident showed that one of the front tyres burst suddenly that the driver lost control over the steering wheel, veered off the road, and rolled over several times."
The victim filled in a concrete manhole on the side of the road, he added. "It took the rescue teams some time to manage to cut through the totally damaged truck, and lift the corpse of the victim."
The man's body was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives, while the accident file was referred to the traffic prosecution for legal procedures.
In the wake of the incident, all drivers were advised to check the tyres of their vehicles and replace worn out tyres as they can burst anytime and put the life of the driver in danger.
