A 25-year-old Asian woman succumbed to the injuries she received after the car she was travelling in rammed into a lamppost on the Julan Road in Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim, identified only as S.S.A., was accompanied by her 24-year-old sister, Z.S.A, who sustained serious injuries in the accident on Saturday afternoon.
The car was driven by the victim's 21-year-old brother, identified only as M.S.A., who received moderate injuries, according to a senior police officer with the RAK Police.
Lt-Col Ibrahim Mattar, acting Chief of the Maamura Police Station, said the central operations room of the RAK Police was alerted about a car that veered off the road and collided with a lamp post on the Julan Road around 1pm.
"Traffic patrols, ambulance and rescue teams rushed to the site to find the three passengers badly injured and trapped inside the car."
The elder sister, who was sitting in the back seat, died on the spot due to the impact of the accident, Lt-Col Mattar elaborated.
"The second sister, who was sitting next to the dead victim, received serious injuries as well, and she is in a critical condition."
"The body of the deceased has been shifted to the morgue of a nearby hospital whereas the other siblings are receiving treatment."
Initial investigation showed that the brother lost control over the wheel and the car veered off to the right side of the road. While he tried to take control again, it swerved again to the left and rammed into the lamppost, he said, adding that they were heading from the Rams Road to the Julan Road when the accident occurred, Lt-Col Mattar said.
