The criminal court in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has ordered suspension of a one-year jail term passed against two people involved in assaulting an Emirati national.

The court also ordered acquittal of the third suspect, and the suspension of a one-month imprisonment issued against the victim by the lower court for being convicted of swearing at the trio.

As per court records, RAK police were alerted that the victim sustained serious injuries and a permanent disability following a brawl with three other people in the northern emirate.

The heated argument, which turned into a rough fight, was attributed to some procedures the victim had done to a plot of land he owned.

As per the forensic report, the victim received several injuries all over his body, and suffered a permanent disability in one of his hands.

The plaintiff and three defendants, who were immediately arrested after the brawl, were referred to the RAK public prosecution for further investigation and legal action.

The RAK criminal court of first instance found the first and second defendants guilty and ordered them to serve one year in prison, while the third suspect was set free.

The same court found the victim himself guilty of swearing and using abusive language at the defendants and gave him a one-month jail term.

Being dissatisfied with verdicts, the victim and three defendants approached the RAK criminal court of appeal which turned down and suspended all the jail terms issued, and upheld the acquittal ruling.
