Three people trapped in a fire that broke out in the garbage room of an 18-storeyed residential building were rescued by the firefighters of Ras Al Khaimah civil defence department. After being alerted about the accident, the central operations room of the RAK Police immediately dispatched a police patrol, an ambulance, firefighters, paramedics and rescue teams to the site. "Immediate evacuation of the entire building was carried out. However, three people were trapped, and they were rescued in time," said Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, director-general of the RAK civil defence department. Two other residents, who felt difficulty in breathing, were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care, he added. "The RAK civil defence firefighters managed to put out the fire and suck out the accumulated smoke." They used high-pressure water to douse the flames, he explained.
