Some boats and launches were partially damaged while docking on the fishermen's wharf here in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah late on Friday.

The ropes of a giant ship were cut and the vessel drifted to the shore by the high waves and strong winds.

The heavy showers on the northern emirate have flooded the roads of the emirate, cut down so many trees, and filled the deep valleys with rainwater.

Khalifa Al Muheiri, head of the RAK fishermen society, said they investigated the damage to the boats at the RAK port opposite the fish market.

"Luckily the massive vessel came to a stop before colliding with a nearby bridge," he said. "A report on the boats damages will be completed and referred to the bodies concerned for compensating the fishermen."

Marwan Jakkah, head of media and PR relations with the RAK police, said the RAK police have blocked the roads to the Jebel Jais and the Al Beeh Valley for public safety.

"More traffic patrols have been deployed on all the arterial roads and intersections for traffic control and ensuring flow."

So far, no serious traffic accident has been reported, he added. "All drivers are advised to be careful and attentive on the road, observe traffic rules, reduce speed, and keep a distance for sudden pull over."

All parts of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah saw heavy showers over the last two days, particularly in the northern and southern regions, valleys and mountainous areas. Residents of the areas much exposed to pouring showers and strong winds, were requested to be careful, and immediately call 999 in case of emergency.

"All resident are advised to avoid mountainous areas, and the strong currents of the valleys here, while all motorists are requested to reduce speed, be attentive on the road, turn on the light, and observe traffic rules for road users' safety and theirs."

Eng. Ahmed Al Hammadi, director general of the RAK public works and services department, said they have deployed some 35 tankers and over 25 pumping machines to drain the accumulating water ponds.

"Most of the water ponds reported in the areas of Al Dheit, Shaam, Al Rams, Al Nakheel, and RAK cities were drained."

Adding, he said more than 10 million gallons of rainwater have been sucked out from the roads of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. "Water draining operations are on day and night."
Brigadier Ghanim Ahmed Ghanim, director general of the police operations, RAK police, said they were alerted that the ship was moving haphazardly, but slowly towards the RAK bridge.
"The traffic patrols immediately rushed to the bridge, blocked the road, and diverted the traffic flow to alternative roads, while the emergency team got onboard the ship and stopped it."
