Is free parking period cancelled in Sharjah?

Sharjah - The Municipal council has recently approved the suggestion of cancelling the free parking period.

The midday free parking is yet to be cancelled in the emirate, according to a top official.
The decision to cancel free midday parking, which was recently approved by the Sharjah municipal council, has not been implemented by the Sharjah Municipality, said Attif Al Mazroui, director of the parking department at the Sharjah civic body.
He added that the municipality is yet to execute the decision and the installed parking machines are not activated.
"When we decide to implement the decision we will announce it in a press conference to be attended by all means of media to convey the message to public," Al Mazroui said.
The municipal council went ahead with the scrapping of the free midday to help motorists find parking space in vital areas, especially during the afternoons.
According to him, the council has noticed motorists exploiting the free parking near commercial areas has brought troubles to these establishments and so they decided to end the free midday parking system.
