Driving institutes, vehicle testing centres and heavy truck will come under a smart monitoring system in the emirate.

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has opened a Smart Monitoring Centre (SMC) at the RTA's Licensing Agency with an aim to improve the traffic safety, and curb accidents and fatalities through the intense surveillance system.

The smart centre has four key systems namely, CCTV system, eVehicle safety system, central vehicle testing system, and the smart licensing & traffic system.

The centre is fitted with hi-tech gadgets linked with surveillance cameras installed at the centres affiliated to licensing service providers. It is also connected with monitoring devices fixed on heavy vehicles enabling it to communicate with the Dubai Police patrols.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, stressed RTA's commitment to deliver the best solutions in raising the awareness and traffic safety levels, besides employing smart technologies in various fields.

Ahmed Bahroyzan, CEO of Licensing Agency and Mohammed Nabhan, director of Monitoring and Enforcement, briefed Al Tayer about the tasks of the centre. While describing the tasks of the centre, Bahrozyan said: "It is the first centre of its kind in the RTA that monitors violations in technical testing centres and vehicle driving facilities through surveillance cameras. It issues offences in absentia and retains video clips and images in proof of violations committed.

"All service providers are notified with all offences reported by the centre. During the initial phase, the centre reported offences on a trial bases to alert service providers to take corrective measures. From the beginning of this year, the RTA started to issue offences bearing respective fines as stipulated in the applicable legislations."
