The Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) most prized possession, the Dubai Metro, turns six today. Since its launch in 2009, the Dubai Metro has become a pivotal mode of transport for residents. Inexpensive, clean and efficient, the Metro has been a great success story.

Dubai Metro through 6 years of commuting bliss

It has consistently seen increase in ridership numbers year after year. In the first half of 2015, ridership touched 271.302 million, compared to 262.569 million during the same period last year.

With passenger traffic on red and green lines increasing exponentially in the last six years, some complaints are trickling in about congestion.
Users are now seeking new Metro routes and even inter-Emirate Metro lines. Route 2020 is the most anticipated addition to Dubai's infrastructural landscape. Route 2020 will branch off from the red line at Nakheel Harbour and Towers, heading towards Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. It will pass through communities such as the Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Furjan.
