Two Asians succumbed to fatal injuries they received in a road collision here in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain on the first day of Eid Al Fitr holiday.

Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director general of the traffic and patrols department of the UAQ police, said the mishap took place on the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan at the Labsa area here in Umm Al Quwain.

The central operations room of the UAQ Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time.

"Initial enactment of the accident blamed the collision on the victim who entered the road after making an untimely U-turn and before making sure that the road was clear."

Another driver, Emirati, was driving his car on the correct lane when he was surprised with the victim who entered the road in a wrong way, he added.

"The Emirati driver, who was heading from the Falaj Al Mualla area to the UAQ city, tried to avoid the collision, but to no avail, and he rammed into the car of the erring driver."

The impact of the collision was so hard that the victim unfortunately sustained serious injuries all over his body, particularly in his head, bled excessively, could not make it, and died on the spot, Col Bin Aran explained.

"Another Asian resident, who was in the same car of the victim, received serious injuries, but he later passed away while being shifted to the hospital for medical care."

Urging road safety, Col Bin Aran advised all drivers to be focused on the road, and observe traffic rules and regulations.

"Taking an untimely U-turn or entering a main road without making sure it was clear has been reported for so many grave accidents in Umm Al Quwain and nearby emirates."

As per the amended traffic rules to take effect on Saturday, July 01, overtaking another car in a wrong way draws a fine of Dh600, he warned. "This apart from six demerit black points."
