2,000 workers battle Dubai's water-clogged streets, roads

Dubai - About 60 pumps and 50 tankers were being used for clearing waterlogged areas, says official.

Around 2,000 municipal workers were deployed across Dubai to attend rain-related works, a senior municipality official has said.
"The situation is very much under control. Our people are out in the field," Taleb Abdulkarim Julfar, head of the emirate's Rain Committee, told Khaleej Times on Sunday noon.
When it rains, the official said, the municipality activates a 12-hour shift for workers handling rain-related jobs. "They started the work at 6am and another batch will join for the next shift at 6pm."
On Sunday morning, he said around 800 workers were out in the streets to tackle rain water. "We also have 200 workers assigned in small groups to check and clear waterlogging in open areas where the drainage network is not connected. If there is no network system in any area, we use pumps to suck out the water from open areas."
About 60 pumps and 50 tankers were being used for clearing waterlogged areas, he said.
